The small apartments above the kitchens off the Albert Cuyp are her usual ground, and she has an unfussy way of turning a cramped bedroom into somewhere an evening can happen. Gel goes on warm and she favours one long pass down the whole back over three short ones, a preference she will explain at length if asked. Her Romanian is soft, her English is dry, and she is a great deal funnier than her photographs suggest. Ninety minutes and two hours come up far more often in her diary than the single hour, and there is a reason for that.
