She takes a good deal of Centrum work, the rooms where nothing is supplied and the hour has to bring everything itself. Composure on arrival and composure throughout: no fuss over the gel, no commentary, just the warm bottle, the sheet, and her weight coming down through the shoulders in long unbroken passes. By the second hour the room has taken her temperature rather than the other way round. Of her three languages she is exact with each, and sparing with all of them. Overnight bookings are her ordinary ones, and she is unusually easy to be around the following morning.

Constance decides which bookings she takes and may decline any of them; she sets the limits for what a session includes, says what they are, and may end a visit at any point, as the terms set out.
